I have the wanderlust. I’m sure in part it started from watching TV shows of people traveling the country and having experiences and helping people along the way. Part of it is due to traveling a fair amount as a child and young person. I am not certain where this desire to be on the road comes from. But the fact of the matter is that I prefer going places than being places.
In different ways I have been asked; “Why am I doing this trip this way?” That’s the question that I’ve had to ask myself, and just recently I was forced to come up with an answer.
Ultimately, the analogy that I’ve settled on is that I’m treating this trip more like a ‘take your kid to work’ day to see an average day rather than the annual review which is more about the highlights. I want to see the what is between highlights. I want to meet the people who live between the special places rather than the ones visiting them. Why not do both? Time, money, and temperament. I have always been one to go with the flow of my life (not with the crowd, always a rebel) more than drive my life in a direction. I have a framework not a plan. I have hope that I can do this thing and trust that whatever happens is what was meant to happen and it will all be for the best. I am happy with that and I hope everyone else can be okay with the idea that it works for me.
I have a saying; “People over places, seeing over sights.” There is nothing wrong with the second, just that I prefer the first. That said, as I get further from home, I’m certainly not going to miss out on the opportunity to see sights that I might not ever see again, and I will certainly do my best to get to those places.
