After a 22 day pause I am on the road again
The truth is I have never been excited about this part of the trip (aside from visiting family and friends in the Bay area). This was evidenced in part by my sense of completion when I arrived at the Pacific coast. And that when I would tell people about the trip I was taking it was ” … to Eugene and then I don’t know what I will do.” Just never could get my head around it.
Part of the challenge for me has been the constant internal debate about going to the national parks in the southwest or not. Everyone says they are must see, but it does not align with my vision for this ride. So far 2 out of 4 recommended parks have felt worth the effort while many of my favorite places have been accidentally discovered based on random choices. The debate goes on.
Back to the moment at hand – I left Medford Oregon today and after a swing past Crater Lake I will be heading south into California and toward the finish line. It was fun, for the first time in a while, to be on the road and on the bike heading toward the unknown. Ultimately it is once again heading off to adventure, a grand journey to discover what is waiting in places I know nothing about and meeting people I never expected to meet that is renewing my spirit and making me excited to throw my leg over the bike and get on the road that will eventually lead me back to Florida.
